Chongqing: An Introduction

Chongqing is one of the biggest and booming cities in southwest China. It has a unique history and offers any visitor a different vibe and character than other cities in China.
Chongqing is one of China’s four municipalities and has not been a part of neighbouring Sichuan province since the 1990’s. Instead, it is controlled directly by the central government along with the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin.
The city is the location of a handful of historical sites, such as the Ci Qi Kou Ancient Village and the Joseph Stilwell Museum. It was the provisional capital during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Chongqing’s history goes back to the time of the Ba Kingdom, around 500 B.C.
With an ideal location on the Yangtze River, Chongqing is a budding Chinese metropolis and mega-city. It’s also one of the world’s fastest growing economic centres, and continues to be an important trading hub because of it’s location near the Yangtze River.
