Date Garden

The city of Yan’an, traditional known as “Yangzhou” in Shaanxi province was once an important base for the CCP (Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party). It also served as the headquarters for the military during the Anti-Japanese War and the War of Liberation, from 1937-1949.
Approximately 8 kilometres (5 miles) from the city of Yan’an is the Date Garden. It was once a warlord’s garden, and later used by the CCP Secretariat as their main headquarters from 1943-1947. There is an assembly hall and about eighty tile-roofed houses on site.
Zhou Enlai, Mao Zedong and Zhu De are just some of the figures in later Chinese history who’ve had residences in the Date Garden. Bronze-coloured statues of them stand at the garden’s entrance.
There are over 800 cultural relics located in the garden and are all part of the country’s revolution which transformed the country in the second half of the 20th century.
